Upskilling Results, Digital U

Problem

DOD needs to ”upskill” it’s workforce across the broad range of digital technologies. This includes helping novices learn the basics of a technology that’s new to them, and helping experts get fast access to technical education in an area where they need to focus.

Solution

Digital U was created to give Airmen and Guardians access to leading commercial online training. The site curates training around several personas and “learning paths.” It also provides an open door to any of the commercial platforms while tracking user activity and reporting it to the individual’s training records. Under the advice of the CXO, the BESPIN software factory, including Omni-Federal, manages Digital U similarly to a commercial product. They track user feedback, user behavior, performance and multiple measures of actual training outcomes. This informs a continuous loop of enhancement to content, curation, features, communications, support and the core platform.

Impact

Digital U is now the #1 rated application in the AF IT Pulse monthly user survey and one of only 2-3 with a System Usability Score in the “Excellent” range. The site averages 600 new users/week and boasts over 20,000 course completions and thousands of learning plan completions, most in technical skills that are critical to the future of the Air Force and Space Force.
