Healthier, Longer Lives, BlueZones
Problem
How do you help a community improve its health and well-being by living healthier lifestyles?
Solution
National Geographic Fellow Dan Buettner partnered with Healthways to launch a health and wellness platform called BlueZones. It was based on his transformative research of locations around the world where people tend to live healthy lifestyles to a late age. He called these the “BlueZones” and has since written several books about the behavior of people in these locations and even launched a popular TV show currently on Netflix.
The founders of BRAVO17 and Omni-Federal, Colt Whittall and Parag Thakker, led the design, development and optimization of this platform. It was completed under a very tight 16-week launch window driven by media contracts and an incentive bonus structure. The site design was complex, informed significantly by concepts from behavioral economics. The platform was launched on schedule and won multiple awards for its innovative concept and design, including Webby, Web Awards, SXSW Innovation Award and led to appearances at SXSW, UXSTRAT and other leading events in the digital agency space.

Impact
The BlueZones campaign was adopted by multiple municipalities. Citizen participants tried and adopted hundreds of thousands of simple behavior changes to improve their well-being.
